Is central really not as safe as I have been told? The very downtown of SP, which is a different area, is less safe and therefore should be avoided for accommodations. I know SP is overwhelming. I am planning on staying at the NAHU hostel in this district and it seems to be in a more residential area and on the outskirts of the downtown area.
